Last day of January! Yay!

This is the last day of the blog marathon! *Phew* Don’t get me wrong, I love blogging, but it was definitely a challenge having to blog everyday! As you can see I fell off the bandwagon a few times!

I promise I will try and blog more than I did last year, but I am taking these next couple of days off! There were times when I was sick and I had to peel myself off the bed to blog. There was one day that I just fell asleep and did not wake up until the next day. All in all, I enjoyed blogging almost every day in January.

Like I said, I will try and blog daily so don’t forget to visit my blog :)

Thanks to everyone who participated in trying to win the free sessions!

Erica & Octavio ~ Engaged!

What a day we had for Erica and Octavio's engagement session! We pretty much were given the evil eye at the Grove and asked not to take photos there and we were kicked out of Beverly Hills! Nothing like this had ever happened to us! However, even with all that, we got some awesome images!

Erica was a bit nervous, but she made friends with the camera towards the end. Octavio, on the other hand, had no problem in front of the camera. That's one of the many things I love about e-sessions, I get to find out if one of the two is camera shy, what they are comfortable with, what makes them smile, and I get to know them more in depth.

Erica & Octavio: Thank you for waiting so patiently for your teasers :) You guys were so fun to be around. I can't wait for your wedding, which I know is going to be beautiful!

Here are a few of my favorite images:

I need to blog!

The 3rd winner is Leslie H.

This was a super close one. The winner won at 12:01 a.m. Can you believe that?!

I now have to go back to my box of tissues, cup of Theraflu, and warm blanket. Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of a cold asap?

More coming soon

I know I promised I would post a full recap of the Lakers game today, but I have a cold creeping up on me that is threatening to take over if I do not take care of myself and get some rest! So I need to get some rest to be up and ready tomorrow for a long day.

Here's another photo from the Lakers game, though! I like how Art is too into the game to care about the self portrait :p

Blogging from the car

What everyone wants to know, who won! Nancy T! I'll e-mail you the 411!

I will be going out on a date with Art today so this is all my blogging for today. Guess where we're going! To watch our favorite team ever! The Lakers!!! :) You know how we do! :P Before going to the Staples Center, we're going to dinner, though. It should be a great date! Art sure knows how to make me happy :)

Of course, I can't leave you without a photo or two.

Art started making fun of me when he came inside the car and found me taking pictures of myself (I have to blog a photo!) in the car and blogging :p Hey, his barbershop told me to use their wi-fi while I waited for him. I can't turn that down!

This was my reaction to his teasing :P

I made him join me, though! lol

Before & After

Once in a while I get questions from other photographers asking how do I get the colors I do and how do I get the images to look so sharp.

Honestly, I don't do much to most images. I usually just boost the contrast and use an action I created for my images for sharpening.

Here is a before & after example:

Straight from the camera, except for resizing

Adjusted brightness with curves, boosted contrast and saturation, and at the very end I ran my sharpening action. That's it!

I also like to use Kevin Kubota's Magic Sharp action for sharpening.

I hope this was helpful to some :) I love to see before & after posts. It's so cool to be able to see how a photographer decides to edit a particular image.

If you want me to keep posting these, just let me know :)

Need suggestions

As I mentioned before, my cousin is getting married in a few months. They are trying to decide where to go for their honeymoon. As of now it seems like they might go to the Dominican Republic. Has anyone been there that can give us their review?

Any other suggestions are also welcome :)

I have to post an image with this post, so for the last hour I was going through my e-mails looking for images from our honeymoon. I didn't want to upload them to the new computer, but I ended up taking a longer time to find them in my sent e-mails. I guess it would help if I did not have like 100 e-mail addresses!

Art and I went to Bora Bora and Moorea for our honeymoon and we loved it! We already gave my cousin our review on those two locations.

Here is a photo of us! Wow, I can't believe that was over 2 years ago! Sorry for the small image, but, like I said, it came from one of my saved sent e-mails.

We look tired!! It also sucked that we had to keep taking self portraits. We should have hired a photographer :p

Anyway, if you've been to the Dominican Republic or have any other suggestions for my sousin, leave a comment :)

Thanks!

Yes, it's true

I did not blog yesterday. I had a very long and stressful day yesterday so I kept pushing aside the fact that I still had not blogged. Around 8:00 p.m. I decided I would take a "nap." I thought to myself someone is probably going to win a free session...

My mood was definitely boosted when I woke up this morning and saw how many people had e-mailed me regarding the blog! I woke up Art and showed him how many e-mails were in my inbox. It made me extremely happy to know that many of you are following the blog ;)

So without further ado, here is the winner:

Gianna G.

In case I don't blog again in January, let me give you an idea of what time you should e-mail, based on what time the top four people e-mailed me.

First E-mail: Sally M. 12:24 a.m.
Second E-mail: Melissa F. 1:18 a.m.
Winner E-mail: Gianna G. 1:26 a.m.
Fourth E-mail: Yvette V. 1:34 a.m.

It was very close!! If you really want to win a free session, cross your fingers and hope that I don't blog!!!

Good luck!

Andi's Family

My last portrait session of 2008 was of Andrea's awesome family. I was so excited when Andrea contacted me regarding Art and I potentially shooting a family session for them. You see, Andrea is also in the wedding business. She is a make-up artist. She worked with one of my 2008 brides. Andrea has seen so many photographers' work, so for her to pick us to photograph her family was a huge compliment :)

By the way, to any brides looking for a Make-up Artist, check out Andrea's website: Something Blue Stylists
She is fabulous!

Professional makeup makes a big difference when photographing a bride. So for any brides on the fence whether to book a MUA or not, do it! You will be happy with your decision!

Back to the family session! We headed to Santa Monica for the shoot. The light was perfect for the outdoor shots!

Meet the fam:

Andi

Tom

Linda

Doug

Jessi

We started off with some relaxed shots of the family just having fun

I love this image! The sun and background are gorgeous! Look at my husband work the cam, both behind the lens and in front!

Andi, Tom, Linda, Doug, and Jessi: Thank you so much for being so much fun! You guys were the best!

Engagement & Portrait Sessions

NOTE: This post will stay above other most recent blog entries for a couple of weeks, as a reminder.

For all my current brides or potential clients who want to book an engagement or portrait session between January-May, please book by the end of the month. January-May is going to be a very busy wedding season for me, so after January I will not be able to book any more engagement or portrait sessions until the end of May. Please be sure to e-mail me, if you want to do a portrait or engagement session during January through May.

Unlike 2008, January through May seems even more busy than summer, which is considered wedding season. I guess in California there is no such thing as wedding season!

On another note, here is a reminder of the free e-session or portrait session you can possibly win this month by visiting my blog:

I will give away a free engagement/portrait session or Trash the Dress/Mr. & Mrs. session to anyone who has either contacted me before about booking a wedding date with me, has booked a wedding with me or portrait session or if you've ever left a comment on my blog.

The third e-mail I receive saying, “You need to blog everyday!” will be the one to get the free session. You can e-mail me at info@natalylemus.com. Be sure to include your name and contact info.

I will let you know as soon as I get the 3rd e-mail.

You need to be able to do the session within 60 days from winning the free session.

RESTRICTIONS: THE SHOOT IS SUBJECT TO OUR TERMS AND CONDITIONS AS STATED IN OUR CONTRACT, AND THE DATE AND TIMES WILL BE CHOSEN BY PHOTOGRAPHER NATALY LEMUS, SHOOT WILL BE DONE IN ONE DAY, IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY, AND WILL BE WORKED OUT BEST AROUND BOTH OF OUR SCHEDULES.

Check below for the most recent entries.

Bride Wars

Have any of my blog readers seen Bride Wars? I read a few bad reviews so I am not too sure if I will go see it. I really wanted to take my cousin, Steph, who will be getting married in a few months, and the rest of the bridesmaids to see this movie. You know, I'm trying to be a good Co-Maid of Honor ;)

After reading this review, I had my doubts about going. If anyone has seen it, let me know what you think. Should we go or not?

I must admit, I also want to see it just because I still love wedding movies! It was not that long ago that Art and I were planning our wedding *sigh* Even though I did enjoy the planning process, I love being married a lot more :)

Anyway, let me know what you thought about the movie. We will go dress shopping with my cousin so I thought it would be fun to go see Bride Wars afterward. Someone please chime in with your thoughts! Should we go see it? Yay or nay?

First 2009 Wedding!

I photographed my first wedding for 2009 today! We took a few weeks off at the end of 2008 and only shot portrait sessions, so tonight when we got home Art and I were super sore! It was a beautiful wedding, though! Totally worth our sore muscles :)

Something really cool happened while I was waiting for today's bride and groom to come out from their reception venue to come and shoot their portrait session. A random couple came up to me and asked if I was Nataly. The bride-to-be said she knows me from my blog! I thought that was one of the coolest things ever! Alicia, you made my day :) It makes blogging worth it when I know people do read it :)

So as you can see, today was a good day!

I promised today's bride, Lisa, that I would post an image from their wedding tonight!

I will do better and post 4 ;)

Did I make you want some of this sorbet? It was good!

Lisa & Rick, have fun in Puerto Rico! I can't wait to blog more images from your wedding!
xoxo, nat

Blog readers: Someone almost won a free session! I barely made it on time for today's post! Keep visiting the blog, someone might just win the free session! ;)
