Yay or Nay?

For a while now I have been debating whether or not I should try textures. Well, today as I was playing with some images I thought it would be a good idea to see how some of my images would look. While I like the artsy look it gives them, it's way different than what I am used to. I love for my images to be vibrant and sharp...these have more of a romantic, for lack of a better word, look to me.

What do you think? Should I keep exploring this post process? Yay or Nay? I definitely want to hear from my brides! So I am calling you ladies (the grooms, too!) out! Tell me what you think :)

Hi Nataly! I think you did a fantastic job on the textures. I, like you, am on the fence about the technique! But, you did it very well!

Hey Nat! I think they look great and maybe used here and there on a select few photos it would work well with your vibrant photos. :) Hope that helped.

I just came across your blog and I really like your work. I say "yay" on the textures. I think a variety is good once in a while. I'm new to all this and I was wondering what kind of actions you use to get your pictures as sharp as you do?

Hi Nataly,
I think photographers have to be very very careful about how much they use textures, overlays etc. I see so many photo blogs now where every image is so overphotoshopped that it just starts to look awful. One of the reasons I love your photos so much is because they are fresh, bright, sharp and colourful. It's a slippery slope...the ones you did look good (as in, you know how to make them work well!) but I would hate to see it overtaking your signature style. I do like a bit of softness for romance or an olde worlde feel, but the textures that look like a painted canvas or like some washed out 70's band photograph...those don't work for me.

I like I like! :) It gives the pictures a vintage feel. Maybe not on all the photos, because I adore your crisp, bright colors, but the ones you have above are beautiful!

Nat, the second shot is stunning, you are a very talented photographer! And the textures IMHO look beautiful.

Keep it up!

Nat!!! These are out this world great! They look like paintings! You rock! Like the other said your style is beautiful and I love the clearness and sharpness so never change that but you can throw these in the mix and use them once in a while.

Thanks for the input, everyone!

Shutterbugfoto: Girl, just ask me whatever you want and you know I am more than happy to answer!

My Sacred Corazon: For the black and white photo I took a photo of a texture I liked and used that. To get the black and white I added a vignette, added some contrast and messed with the levels a bit. With color images, I used some textures I found online. I also added a warming action from Kevin Kubota and, again, I added some contrast. To get them as sharp as possible I need to first of all nail the exposure (does not always happen). As far as actions, it depends on the image. I usually use some actions I made, but I also use Magic Sharp. Hope this helps :)

Hi Nat - long time lurker and future client hopefully here - I love your signature vibrant look. I do appreciate what you did with the textures and feel that if you added it to a few select shots that warranted them (like the ones you played with) then it would be a wonderful addition to what you offer. Keep up the great work! I love what you do :)

Hey Nataly, Great work with the textures. I believe as artists, we need to grow through experimentation, and always be open to new ideas. I think they look lovely and textures should definately have a place in the Nataly Lemus style!!

Hi Nataly,

I think the texture looks great! Like everyone else, I also love the sharp colors and crisp images that you've been doing, but I think textures would be a great addition to the great stuff you already do. I especially like the way the 3rd pic came out!
